Supply Chain CEO Sees Bright Future For Industry

By John Vinson

It's almost beyond cliche at this point to say that the economy has affected everyone. One industry that took a massive hit was Supply Chains. It makes sense; they're the middle man that transports goods from supplier to consumer. If consumers aren't buying, the suppliers aren't supplying and so on and so forth.

However, the CEO of ProLogis, Walter C. Rakowich sees a bright future ahead for the industry. The company is based out of Denver and is touted as one of the larger developers in the Supply Chain industry.

Rakowich explains his optimism, "Looking ahead, we see a global market that's beginning to show signs of stability" he continues, "Perhaps growth and expansion will come sooner than we thought. We'll see."

The CEO has numbers to support his positive outlook. For the first time in two years, ProLogis has seen an increase in occupancy throughout a full quarter. Leasing increased by 13 percent total.

The past year has been difficult on ProLogic. They've had to seal many subsidiaries, and posted an $11.7 million loss in the prior quarter.

If their suppliers are any indication of the future, a recent survey showed many businesses thinking positively as well. Two-thirds of their customers expect a positive outlook for their business. Rakowich details a part of the survey, "Several of them mentioned supply chain reconfigurations, which sometimes means expansion and sometimes is simply a search for greater efficiencies"

If Supply Chains are any barometer to go by for our economic well being, then perhaps good times are ahead all around.
