The Supply Chain Council (SCC) is having an executive summit the 28-30th of this month in Palm Springs, CA. The event will cover the topic of "Reinventing Supply Chain Strategy for Performance and Risk."

The summit will be hosting some top business leaders who will be sharing their stories of success in SCM and sharing tips on how they have overcome opposition and improved performance. The summit is oriented to deal with just that: the resiliency of supply chains.

As SCC's website explains, supply chains have needed to become more responsive. They list five areas in which agility has been demanded:

  • Executives are now responsible for both customer relations and order fulfillment.

  • Technology provides greater visibility than ever before.

  • S&OP has greater precision in balancing supply and demand than ever before.

  • Distribution networks are changing every few years.

  • Inventories are kept at the lowest volume than ever before.

The website goes on to explain that even with the great improvements that supply chains have made, natural disasters and supplier changes reveal how much more improvement is needed in supply chain agility.

This conference hopes to answer those questions and others, such as:

  • Commodity price changes

  • Transportation limitations

  • Volatility in international labor costs

  • Mitigating risk

  • The affect of recent economic turns on supply chains

SCC has another conference in Netherlands on October 23-25. There are also other conferences coming up such as the 4th Sustainable Supply Chain Summit on October 28-29 and GHX's Healthcare Supply Chain Summit May 7-9 of next year.
